After 5 long years, Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei, lit. “ The Poor Performing Student of a Magic High School”) or simply known as The Irregular at Magic High School is returning for its 2 ndseason this 2020. Tatsuya Shiba together with his sister Miyuki is back for another fusion of magic and science in this fantasy science-fiction anime series.
For sure, everyone has so many questions about the upcoming season 2 of The Irregular at Magic High School such as the universal questions — when is the release date, how many episodes, and what will be the story about? The Irregular at Magic High School Overview
The anime is based on a popular web novel series Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei by Tsutomu Satō. It was first published in 2008 at the internet novel website Shōsetsuka ni Narō. Eventually, the web novel had been released in light novel format since July 2011 via Dengeki Bunko with Ishida Kana as the illustrator.
The Irregular at Magic High School Plot is described as follows:
In the dawn of the 21st century, magic, long thought to be folklore and fairy tales, has become a systematized technology and is taught as a technical skill. In First High School, the institution for magicians, students are segregated into two groups based on their entrance exam scores: “Blooms,” those who receive high scores, are assigned to the First Course, while “Weeds” are reserve students assigned to the Second Course. Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei follows the siblings, Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba, who are enrolled in First High School. Upon taking the exam, the prodigious Miyuki is placed in the First Course, while Tatsuya is relegated to the Second Course. Though his practical test scores and status as a “Weed” show him to be magically inept, he possesses extraordinary technical knowledge, physical combat capabilities, and unique magic techniques-making Tatsuya the irregular at a magical high school. The Irregular at Magic High School received an anime adaptation which premiered in April 2014 with Manabu Ono directing the series at studio Madhouse. The anime adaptation runs for a total of 26 episodes from April 5, 2014 until September 27, 2014; which covers the first 7 volumes of the novel except for the 5 thvolume.
The anime also received a movie adaptation last 2017 titled The Irregular at Magic High School The Movie: The Girl Who Calls the Stars. The film was scripted by the series creator Tsutomu Satō himself, and directed by Risako Yoshida at studio Eight Bit (8-bit). The casting from the anime’s 1 stseason also reprised their respective roles in the movie.
The Irregular at Magic High School Season 2 Plot
Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Raihousha-hen ( The Irregular at Magic High School Season 2: Visitor Arc) — The anime’s 2 ndseason will cover the Visitor Arc of the novel which consisted of the 9 thup to 11 thvolume of the novel.
Synopsis: Shiba Miyuki’s classmate Kitayama Shizuku is on her way to study abroad. For magicians, this is normally impossible, since allowing the genes of someone who can use magic outside their home country’s borders is tantamount to giving up national secrets. But it’s allowed to happen in one case-exchange program. And that’s how Angelina Kudou Shields has arrived in Japan from the USNA to study at First High. Around the time Lina arrived in Japan magicians began getting attacked by a mysterious being who leaves his victims drained of blood. Will Tatsuya be able to discover the identity of the “Vampire”? The Irregular at Magic High School Season 2 Cast & Staff
Several staffs from the 2017 anime film are returning including Risako Yoshida as the director for The Irregular at Magic High School season 2. Other staff also includes Iwasaki Taku for music with Eight Bit (8-Bit) returning as the animation studio.

According to the announcement made at the “Dengeki Bunko Aki no Namahōsō Festival” event last October 6, 2019 — The Irregular at Magic High School Season 2 release date will be in July 2020. Additional details will be added here once we get the specific release date for the anime.
