The summer 2019 season is officially here and we have seen the first two weeks of the season so far and I think it’s about time to discuss it. Thus, I am writing our first impression review for summer 2019 anime lineup and I think I have to start it with saying I am taking back my first remarks about it when the season just started few weeks ago.

During a short conversation with some of my friends who are also watching anime, I have stated that the summer 2019 lineup is quite weak at some point compared to spring 2019 anime season. Maybe, it’s because I still have a hangover of the previous season and especially how awesome was the ride I had with it especially with Fruits Basket (2019) reboot, Kono Oto Tomare!, Attack on Titan 3, and the Demon Slayer. However, now that we are delving deeper this season, I could say that I misjudged it at first sight and have to add that there are plenty of good shows this season and some of them truly captivated my heart already.

In this post, I will share my first thoughts about most of the anime shows that I have in my watchlist this season. To be honest, this is the first time that I have over 30 anime titles in my watchlist in an ongoing season including the leftover shows. At I thought, I could only manage over 20 shows like what I did from the previous season but as what people said, surpass your limit and that is what I am aiming to do this summer despite the exhausting schedule at work.

So, let’s start our list following our Top 10 Anime of Summer 2019 — Week №1 chart which we posted on our Facebook page last Sunday. Here we go:

Forcing its way to the top of my early favorites despite the popular shounen titles this season is GIVEN — Can’t Say Goodbye. I’m Still Drifting With Your Echoes. Everyone might be surprised and saying that GIVEN is yaoi, boys-love, or whatever shounen-ai jargons people could say but personally, it is not your ordinary boys-love story. It goes beyond that, it’s friendship, it’s music, it’s drama, and yes it is love. So far, from the first strum of those strings of the guitar, I could say we are up to a dramatic ride with a very promising story.

First of all, I am quite disappointed with the first episode but I believe that this anime is among the strongest title this season with a huge fandom behind it knowing just how good the original light novel is. I still have high hopes for Arifureta and definitely, have it in my watchlist til the end of the season. What makes it out of the Top 10 in our list is possibly the weak start and with that pretty cheap rip off of Tokyo Ghoul cliché and poor scriptwriting. Seriously, I am devastated with its script but the good animation, pretty visuals, and decent song still manage to save it from falling too far and the story is a promising one. I could feel the same vibes as The Rising of the Shield Hero from Arifureta which makes things even more exciting.

Alright, the first episode had been quite a confusing ride for me but after watching the second episode I realize how enchanting this anime is. The music is so magical and beyond witchcraft could make, the story is filled with some conspiracy and I just want to uncover most of them so I might have joined this anime until it’s officially over. So far, the 2nd episode had improved my thoughts about this anime.

Now this one is a little bit conflicting. Anime like this reminds us of the tragic measure people could do in order to win a war. It could produce monsters, and at some point, we people could only pray to anyone who has the strength in order to survive but when the danger is over, what happens to such symbol of strength or power? We abandoned it when everything is over, it shows that we humans could be the world’s greatest traitor and we are also the one who drive people to be monsters. This is more than politics, more than military and more than what our hearts could endure. To The Abandoned Sacred Beasts is quite a painful story but shows that no matter how painful it maybe we have to move forward and prioritize the safety of the majority and see the bigger picture for the sake of the greater good.

So far, these are the anime shows that I truly enjoyed and opened the season with a good start. Though, Magical Sempai and Are You Lost? also, deserve to be mentioned here as it really is a fun anime to watch. On your end, please let us know about your thoughts and which anime shows did you enjoy the most this summer 2019 so far.
