My Winter 2020 Anime WatchList
Hey guys, 2020 is almost here and I have prepared my list of anime series to be added in my watchlist for the winter 2020 season. It has been a pretty busy week lately since it’s Christmas season but I am definitely having fun with my Christmas anime watchlist. Furthermore, I am also geared up and preparing everything for my year-end list and wrapped up the whole 2019 anime experience for me and the Yu Alexius Anime Portal. However, before that, I shall present first my watchlist for the winter 2020 anime lineup — which I have chosen from all the anime series coming to air on January next year, although I didn’t include movies as I was planning to make a separate post for the list of 2020 anime movies.
- TV Anime that I will add in my watchlist, my reasons for choosing these titles were based on factors such as graphics/visuals, character designs, plot/synopsis — which pass my standard for anime or looks appealing to me. Nonetheless, I also consider the studio working behind these anime projects and the people behind the curtain. While in most cases, it is always the story presented in its synopsis is the huge basis for my choice but whether I will like it or not falls upon when the anime officially premiered. I remember from the previous seasons, some of my early favorites turn out to be disappointments ( Assassins Pride, Magmel of the Sea Blue, Arifureta, etc.) so I am not also closing the door for new titles to enter my watchlist or for dropping some of my early favorites.
However, I would like to clarify that this list was based on my own preferences, and that is why I have listed even the shows that are not in my own watchlist in order to help my fellow anime viewers to see other anime titles that they may find appealing in the section (2) of this post.
Alright, let’s start our list with the leftover shows from the Fall 2019 anime lineup as follows:
Fate/Grand Order: Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia.
2017 AD. The last era in which Magecraft still existed. Society was created by human hands, but Mages grasped the truth of the world. Magecraft is comprised of techniques from past humans that cannot be explained by science, while science encompasses the techniques of future humans that Magecraft cannot achieve. Researchers and scholars of both Magecraft and science have been gathered to maintain human civilization under the Chaldea Security Organization. But calculations then proved the extinction of humanity in 2019. The cause of this is “realms that cannot be observed” that suddenly appeared in various eras of history, called “Singularities.” Ritsuka Fujimaru, the one Master remaining in Chaldea, has been intervening within these Singularites, alongside the Demi-Servant Mash Kyrielight. He has been attending to the forbidden rituals to resolve or destroy the Singularities: the “Grand Order.” A seventh Singularity has been discovered in ancient Mesopotamia in the year 2655 BC. The land of Uruk, governed by the wise King Gilgamesh after his return from a journey seeking immortality, was grand and prosperous until three goddesses and countless Demonic Beasts appeared. These enemies have brought Uruk to the brink of destruction. With a “Rayshift,” a method of time travel to the past, Fujimaru and Mash arrive in the lands of Uruk to encounter the fortress city of Uruk and the Absolute Demonic Front, fighting back the fearsome attack of the Demonic Beasts. There, the people who live their lives to the fullest despite facing a major threat, continue to fight for their future. Deities and Demonic Beasts make their assault, and mankind stands up against it. It is the destined era where humans and gods part ways. Premiere: LEFTOVER FROM FALL 2019
Boku no Hero Academia Season 4. The villain world teeters on the brink of war now that All For One is out of the picture. Shigaraki of the League of Villains squares off with Overhaul of the yakuza, vying for total control of the shadows. Ahiru no Sora. He may be shorter in stature, but Sora Kurumatani can soar and score on the basketball court! With a passion for the sport he inherited from his mother, Sora vows to her that he’ll take top prize at a high school basketball tournament… but there’s one problem. His new school’s basketball club has turned into a hangout for delinquents! Will Sora’s sheer tenacity and amazing three-point shooting change their minds and get the club up and running again? Chihayafuru 3. “I’m not letting go of my dreams! I’m gonna be the queen!” They put everything on the line to taste the glory. Chihaya and Mizusawa High School karuta club teammates, including those who just joined, spend the summer of their sophomore year competing at the National Tournament. In the team competition, they beat the seemingly invincible Fujisaki High School to make Mizusawa High School the champion for the first time. In the individual competition, Taichi wins the B Level while Arata wins the A Level. The right finger that Chihaya injured in the team competition has healed from the successful surgery. She’s ready to join the Fujisaki High School summer camp with Taichi. They set their eyes on beating the reigning queen and put up with the brutal training from their advisor Sakurazawa, but the discovery of one fact might dash their hopes of playing. Meanwhile, Arata learns that having his own team will open up new opportunities, so he sets off to establishing one. Nanatsu no Taizai: Kamigami no Gekirin.
Despite repelling the demon invasion of the Kingdom of Lioness, the war is far from over, for Arthur’s Kingdom of Camelot is still being occupied by the demon army and the surviving members of Jikkai. However, in order to begin counter-offensive, the Nanatsu no Taiza needs all of its members. Unfortunately, King and Diane are still hiding in the Fairy King’s Forest, where they are made to discover the strange history of Jikkai.
Here, we have the anime series premiering on the winter 2020 season both sequel and new anime adaptation series.
Haikyuu!! Season 4: To The Top. The Miyagi Prefecture qualifiers for the Spring Tournament… after an intense battle Karasuno High School Volleyball Club won their way into the nationals. As they were preparing for the nationals, Kageyama got an invitation to go to All-Japan Youth Training Camp. At the same time, Tsukishima is invited to go to a special rookie select training camp for first-years in Miyagi Prefecture. Hinata feels panic that he’s being left behind as one of the first-years and then decides to show up at the Miyagi Prefecture rookie select training camp anyway… As they prepare for the nationals, Hinata, Kageyama and the rest of the Karasuno High School Volleyball team get ready to face some new challenges!! Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu: Shin Henshuu-ban. New Edition that edits the first season into 1-hour episodes with new cuts of animation leading up to the premiere of Re:Zero Season 2 anime on April 2020.
Synopsis: By dying, a powerless boy obtained the ability “Return by Death,” allowing him to go back in time upon death. Natsuki Subaru was abruptly summoned to another world on his way home from the convenience store one night. In this new world where he had nothing and no one to turn to, the one power he gained was “Return by Death,” the ability to turn back time upon his own death. Pet. There are people who can get into people’s mind and control their memories. This power is used to eradicate mysteries and cases or worse, to assassinate. The potential of the said power is strong enough that it is able to destroy people’s mind, however, can backfire and eat up their own heart. To counter it, chains are used to lock and protect each other’s weak and dangerous heart. From one’s growing fear and disdain, they’re consequently called as a “Pet.” [Source: MAL News]
Plunderer: It’s the year 305 of the Alcian calendar, and the world is controlled by numbers. Every human born is branded with a “Count,” which could mean anything from the number of kilometers walked to the amount of people who have said your food is tasty. Rikei ga Koi ni Ochita no de Shoumei Shite Mita.
Yukimura Shinya and Himuro Ayame are two scientists that want to find out if love can be solved by a scientific theory. Runway de Waratte. Runway de Waratte starts with the story of Fujito Chiyuki, an aspiring fashion model and daughter of a fledgling Modeling Agency, Mille Neige. Ever since she was little, Chiyuki’s dream was to be the star model of her dad’s agency and perform at Paris Fashion Week. With great looks and a gifted environment, it seemed like she was on the right track to fulfill her dream, but she soon found herself faced with a seemingly insurmountable wall when her height stopped growing at 158 cm; too short to be a professional model. Although Chiyuki still kept on believing in herself for years despite everyone telling her it’s impossible, Chiyuki’s resolve starts to crumble as she enters her last year of high school. This is when she meets Tsumura Ikuto, a lame classmate with a surprising talent for designing clothes, who is also considering giving up his dream due to unfortunate circumstances. Dorohedoro. In a city so dismal it’s known only as “the Hole,” a clan of Sorcerers has been plucking people off the streets to use as guinea pigs for atrocious “experiments” in the black arts. In a dark alley, Nikaidou found Caiman, a man with a reptile head and a bad case of amnesia. To undo the spell, they’re hunting and killing the Sorcerers in the Hole, hoping that eventually they’ll kill the right one. But when En, the head Sorcerer, gets word of a lizard-man slaughtering his people, he sends a crew of “cleaners” into the Hole, igniting a war between two worlds. [Source: Viz]
Toaru Kagaku no Railgun T.
* Based on the Toaru Kagaku no Railgun manga written by Kamachi Kazuma and illustrated by Fuyukawa Motoi, which in itself is a spin-off of the light novel, manga and anime series Toaru Majutsu no Index.
- Isekai Quartet is a crossover series featuring characters from popular “isekai” franchises illustrated in cute, superdeformed style.
Itai no wa Iya nano de Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu.
Kaede Honjou is invited by her friend Risa Shiramine to play a virtual reality MMO game with her. While Kaede doesn’t dislike games, what she really, truly dislikes is being in pain. She creates a character named Maple, and decides to put all her points in VIT to minimize pain. As a result, she moves slowly, can’t use magic, and even a rabbit can get the best of her. But as it turns out, she acquires a skill known as “Absolute Defense” as a result of her pumping points into VIT, as well as a “Counter Skill” that works against special moves. Natsunagu! The story follows the coming-of-age of Natsuna Keyaki, a college student in Tokyo who goes to Kumamoto after losing contact with her friend after the 2016 earthquakes. Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun. “Hanako-san, Hanako-san…are you there?” At Kamome Academy, rumors abound about the school’s Seven Mysteries, one of which is Hanako-san. Said to occupy the third stall of the third floor girls’ bathroom in the old school building, Hanako-san grants any wish when summoned. Yashiro Nene, an occult-loving high school girl who dreams of romance, ventures into this haunted bathroom…but the Hanako-san she meets there is nothing like she imagined! Majutsushi Orphen Hagure Tabi. A sorcerer who was once the top student of the famous Tower of Fang, now spends his time chasing around his hopeless clients as a moneylender, at least until his client comes up with a plan to make money: marriage fraud. Unwillingly being dragged in to the plan, Orphen encounters a monster who has long been his goal since the day he left the Tower of Fang. Between those who seek to kill the monster and Orphen, giving everything to protect the monster, his lousy but peaceful days end. Heya Camp△. The Outclub goes on a journey! The Outdoor Activities Club, Aka, the Outclub has 3 members. In the countryside of Yamanashi Prefecture, there’s a high school named Motosu High School. Go even further to one of the school buildings and you’ll find a very laid-back outdoor club that uses one corner of the classroom as their club room. Kagamihara Nadeshiko finally wants to kill some time in their club room, but then Ohgaki Chiaki and Inuyama Aoi suddenly announce that they’re all going on a trip. They drag the confused Nadeshiko with them and the Outclub hustles all through Yamanashi. The girls enjoy the various local treats as they travel around, but where in the world is the end destination for this trip?! [Source: Crunchyroll]
Eizouken ni wa Te wo Dasuna! Asakusa Midori wants to create an anime, but she’s too disheartened to make that first step by herself. This is where I will end my list of recommended anime series for 2020 ‘s first quarter. I hope that you find some interesting anime that you may want to add in your own watchlist.
